Sealant is not only a protection but it is also a lens through which you see your paintwork (which is why preparation is the key), so thus will affect the look. The sealant will typically give your paint a high gloss wet look, making the paint look very wet and typically leaving the surface feeling ultra smooth. The difference between this and wax is that sometimes it can lack any depth to the paintwork.

Whereas wax is an organic and natural product of the earth you will find that sealants are man-made or synthetic waxes. They contain polymers or acrylic compounds which can give an amazing reflection.

It is not uncommon for people to combine both a sealant and a wax to add to the durability of protection. Note if you are thinking of doing this please ensure you do the sealant and then the wax, not the other way around.
